Audrey V. O’Donnell, a longtime resident of New Windsor and formerly of the Bronx, NY, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2023 at the Montefiore Hospital in New Rochelle, NY; she was 87- years old. She was born in New York, NY on December 26, 1935, daughter of the late Charlie & Mary (Mulvey) Malzard. She raised her family in the Bronx.
Audrey graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Fordham University, and was valedictorian of her class. She continued onto Long Island University on scholarship, where she attained her Master’s degree. Audrey worked as a teacher and counselor at various schools, including the Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake, NY, where she retired from after several years.
Aside from education and teaching, her passion was writing. She also loved reading, walks and nature. Audrey was a devout Catholic woman; she loved attending Christian retreats at Graymoor with the Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Atonement in Garrison, NY. She enjoyed charitable works such as assisting a local soup kitchen in the City of Newburgh, feeding the hungry.
Audrey is survived by her two sons and their wives: William (Gail) O’Donnell and Brendan (Peggy) O’Donnell; she is also survived by a grandson, Dustin Lagos. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Jo McAdams.
Her Family & Friends will gather on Thursday, May 18th from 6-8PM at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM, Friday, May 19th at the Our Lady of Loretto Church, 24 Fair Street, Cold Spring, NY, followed by interment to Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
