Constantine W. Vassell, a life-long Newburgh resident, entered eternal rest on February 13, 2024 at the VA Hudson Valley Healthcare Castle Point Campus in Wappingers Falls, NY; he was 96 years old. He was born in Newburgh, NY on January 14, 1928, son of the late William & Mary (Gavril) Vassell. A Graduate of the Newburgh Free Academy High School.
Constantine served in the United States Army from 1949-1951 during the Korean Conflict, and received an honorable discharge for his service.
Constantine was a life-long faithful communicant of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newburgh. He worked many years as a bookkeeper and businessman, Constantine had his own accounting business and restaurant in the Newburgh-area.
On October 21, 2001, he married Suyunbike ‘Laila’ Karabaeva, who survives him at home.
Along with his wife of 22-years, Laila Vassell, Constantine is survived by his son William Vassell, and daughter-in-law Ellen; his granddaughter Katrina (Nick) Laszlo. He is also survived by his sister Penelope Vassell, and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters. Constantine will be greatly missed by his friends.
His Family & Friends will gather on Sunday, February 18, from 4-8PM at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, NY. A Funeral Service will be offered 10AM, Tuesday, February 20 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 19 Fullerton Ave., Newburgh, NY, followed by interment to Woodlawn Cemetery, 93 Union Ave., New Windsor, New York. Memorial donations may be made in Constantine’s name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
