Beacon – Donald W. Way (Donnie / Tubby) of Beacon, NY is finally at peace with his heavenly father. His wife Patty was with him, holding his hand, as he took his last breath and shut his eyes for his final rest. Donnie passed away Saturday March 3, 2012 at home. Donnie was born on October 12, 1933. He was the son of the late Samuel Leroy and Edith (May) Way. Donnie leaves behind the true love of his life Patty, who he spent over 22 years with. They shared a wonderful life together. He also leaves behind his beloved daughters – Susan Way and Kristen Woodward and her husband Rich as well as his son Donald Way II, his step-children; Cassandra Way, Tracy Johnson and David C. Way and his wife Erica, grand-children; Matthew and Amber Way, Sabrina Lyons, Layla Van Wort, his little pride and joy Daniel Way (AKA Budda), Brady and Carter Way. There’s also his very special nephew David L. Way, who has been referred to as ‘his right arm.’ He is also survived by his ‘baby brother Sammy’ and his wife Donna, his sisters in law; Dolly, Helen, Carol, & Sheila Way, Wanda Laffin and her husband Tim, Sally Turco and her husband Anthony, Brenda Dinsdale and her husband Tom. He has several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins that loved him dearly. He thought the world of Edy and Jack Rock and his wife Mary, Charles Rock and his wife Martha as well as Karen and her husband Matt. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Vern, Leroy, Dave, and Larry. Years ago Donnie had his own landscaping business, where he landscaped throughout the summer, fall, and spring, and snow plowed in the winter. He drove school buses for the City of Beacon School District for over 25 years. Donnie was a Correctional Officer for over 32 years. He was one hell of a vegetable gardener as well. He was a member of Red Men’s, Beacon Bears Football, Elk’s Club, and a lifetime member of Beacon Engine for over 50 years. He believed strongly in education and savings, especially couponing. He came from a family that didn’t have much. His goal in life was to make his own family and children’s lives better. He did that in so many ways, he was always so generous and gave to many organizations and those in need. If you knew him, then you would have loved him. He was a big man, with a big mouth, but a heart 10 times bigger ! His wife Patty says,’Just wait at the gates for me hon, I’ll join you at peace’ ‘ I’ll always love you.’ Visitation will be held Tuesday March 6, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Libby Funeral Home, Inc. 55 Teller Ave. Beacon, NY 12508 Funeral Services will be held Wednesday March 7, at 10:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Beacon, Liberty St. Beacon, Pastor Ben Larsen-Wolbrink will officiate. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Beacon. Please contribute on his behalf to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org so that no one has to ever see their loved one hurt or gone, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital to help a little one and make a change.
