Elizabeth (Gloria) Cherry

Elizabeth (Gloria) Cherry, age 75, a resident of Beacon, departed this life suddenly on Wednesday, October 13, 2011. She was born on January 6, 1936 in Asheville, North Carolina, the fifth of eight children born to the late John and Pauline Cunningham Sullivan. Following the family’s relocation to Beacon, Elizabeth attended and was graduated from Beacon High School. Elizabeth was a devoted mother and started her family with the late Daniel Cherry, this union produced three children. Elizabeth worked at IBM East Fishkill for 25 years and retired in 1993. A devout Christian, Elizabeth was an active member of the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She also served on the Usher Board, Birthday Tea, and Board Trustee. Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children, daughter, Stephanie Cherry of Greensboro, NC and son, Darius Cherry of Beacon, granddaughter Daria Nicole of Kingston, NY, a sister Mrs. Rayford (Johnnie Mae) Sampson of Clinton, NC, a brother John Sullivan of Poughkeepsie, two brothers-in-law, Marcus N. Tate formerly of Beacon, residing in Buffalo, NY and Rayford Sampson of Clinton, NC a sister in law Ruth (Willie) Sullivan of Dallas TX, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was pre-deceased by her son Brian Keith Cherry, two sisters, Barbara J. Tate and Marion Johnson, and three brothers, Lewis, Willie, and Thomas Sullivan. To those I love and those who love me… I gave you my love, you can only guess How much you gave me happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown but now it’s time I travel alone… Visitation will be held Tuesday October 18, from 10:30 – 11:00 am, at Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Main St. Beacon. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Frederick H. Mills Officiating. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
