Florence Strange a long time Beacon resident passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Elant of Fishkill, she was 95. Born in Orange County VA. April 1, 1915, she was the daughter of the late William and Norma Strother Hill. She had worked at People's Laundry and Sonotone Battery, Beacon. She loved volunteering at Community Action Food Program and Ushering at her church, Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Florence leaves to cherish her memory, three granddaughters Rosetta McKinney of Beacon, Terri Watson of Richmond VA., and Tonya Strother Of Poughkeepsie. Fourteen great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren, seven nieces Wanda Robinson, Diane Woodward, and Julia Anderson all of Beacon, Maggie Davis, and Linda Woodward of Poughkeepsie, Evangelist Evelyn King of Newburgh, and Christine Mills of Greenville SC., seven nephews Jerome Perry (Sheila), Calvin Woodward, and Michael Woodward (Teresa) of Baltimore MD., Samuel Strother of Poughkeepsie, Jerome Strother of Dover Plains, and Ronald Strother (Darleen) of Newburgh. And a special nephew Leman Anderson. 50 great nieces and nephews, a sister – in – law Betty Strange of Beacon, and host of extended family and friends. She was pre-deceaesed by her husbund Leon (Crip) Strange in 1976, and her son Clark Strange in 2004, her sisters Gretch Johnson, Mary Fisher, Julia McCargo, and Hastell Perry Woodward, her brothers Russel Hill, Samuel Strother, and Robert Strother, and a niece Patricia Strother Anderson. Visitation will be held Tuesday January 11, from 10 – 11 am, at Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Main St. Beacon. Funeral Services will follow at 11 am with Minister Harry Brown Officiating. Interment will be in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
