George Peterson

George A. Peterson, 91, a longtime Fishkill resident, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2019 at his home. He was born on August 17, 1927, in Jersey City, NJ, son of the late George & Elizabeth ‘Betty' (nee Mastroly) Peterson. George proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy, and was honorable discharged. He worked for many years as a customer sales manager at Burlington Mills of Greensboro, NC, until retiring. George enjoyed sports, both playing & watching, he was an avid golfer; He loved to read, listen to music; and he enjoyed being around children. On October 14, 1989 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon, he married Marie A. Corbet, who survives him. Along with his wife of 29-years, he is survived by his children: George A. Peterson Jr; Patricia A. Furci and her husband Samuel J.; Timothy E. Peterson; Dr. Andrew M. Peterson and his wife, Hanna. He is also survived by his sister Marie Michelin; and his 11 grandchildren: Christine, George III, John, Alysia, Elliott, Nicholas, Keri, Samuel, Maggie, Daniel and Sarah; and his 6 great-grandchildren: Caitlin, Braeden, Matthew, Zachery, Noah and George IV. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Peterson; and his 2 brothers-in-law Robert G. Michelin and James F. Corbet. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 8th from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:30am, Thursday, May 9th at St. Mary Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill, followed by interment and military honors at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Fishkill, NY. The family wishes in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made in George's memory to either the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System, Castle Point Campus, 41 Castle Point Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12509 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 201 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
