James O. Murtaugh

James O. Murtaugh, a longtime Glenham resident, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 8, 2024, at the VA Hudson Valley Healthcare Montrose Facility; he was 76 years old. He was born in Cold Spring, NY on July 8, 1947, son of the late Fred Murtaugh and Mildred (Jaycox) Tomlins.

James attended Haldane Central Schools in Cold Spring, NY. Upon the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, serving from 1964 to 1968. He served abroad in Vietnam from 1967-68, upon his completion, he received an honorable discharge for his service, where he ended rank as a Sergeant.

On December 23, 1971, in Beacon, NY, he married Susan C. Kitzweger, who survives him at home.

James was an active Life-Member of the Slater Chemical Fire Department of Glenham, for many years. He served as past-President and was a past-Fire Police Captain. Aside from the firehouse, James enjoyed traveling and going on cruises with his wife Susan; and even visiting Vietnam post-military. He loved simple things, like riding his Vespa around and his beloved dog Rambo who predeceased him.

Along with his beloved wife of 52-years of marriage, James is survived by his daughter Sue (Joe) Antonio; his son Mike (Amanda) Murtaugh; his four grandchildren Joey and Katie Antonio & James and Michael Murtaugh. He is also survived by his sister Pam (Jeff) Singleton.

His Family will receive Friends on Tuesday, February 13th from 2-4 & 7-9 at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, NY, where a Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11am, Wednesday, February 14th followed by interment to the Fishkill Rural Cemetery; where military honors will be rendered by the United States Marine Corp.
