John Walter Wojcik, 63, a resident of the Hamilton-Fish Plaza Apartments in Beacon, NY, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2021 at the Fishkill Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Beacon. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 30, 1958, son of the late John & Pearl (nee Olar) Wojcik. He moved to Beacon, NY 18-years ago from Philadelphia, PA.
On June 22, 1958 at The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia, PA, his parents brought him to receive the Sacrament of Baptism, officiated by The Rev/Father Laurence J. Murphy.
For 19-years John had a beloved cat and faithful companion named ‘Winkie’. He thought the world of the cat, and was crushed when Winkie passed away in 2016. Along with feline companionship, John also had various lady companions throughout his years, whom he would stay in touch.
John enjoyed a lot of the simple things in life, he enjoyed his walks along Main Street in Beacon, and meeting people along the way. He loved to have a good cigar once in a while, and he was a walking encyclopedia of all music.
John is survived by his brother, Edward J. Wojcik of Poughkeepsie, NY; his sister, Elaine L. Mackey of Kingston, NY; his godson/nephew, Nathan E. Wojcik of Fishkill, NY; his two nieces, Lauren & Katie Wojcik of Haddonfield, NJ; his nephew Joseph F. Shields of Philadelphia, PA; his nephew, Gene W. Mackey; his niece, Isabel Pearl Shaw; he is also survived by several great-nieces, great-nephews & a host of cousins, neighbors & friends.
Along with his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Francis P. Wojcik; his sister and brother-in-law, Gladys H. Shields and Joseph F. Shield Sr..
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial was arranged and celebrated for the repose of John's Soul 12:30 PM on Friday, October 15th at St. John the Evangelist Church, 31 Willow Street, Beacon, followed by burial in the Old St. Joachim Cemetery, 60 Falconer Street, Beacon.
