Julie M. Loste
June 10, 1940 — April 5, 2024
Beacon, NY
Julie M. Loste passed away after a short illness in her home in Beacon, New York on Friday, April 5, 2024. She was a great friend to many, a Godmother, sister, and aunt, who generously showered her circle near and wide with presents and thoughtful emails. She supported many by remembering their events, anniversaries, and social causes.
Julie was raised in Scarsdale, New York by parents H. Lawrence Loste and Barbara Bridge Loste. Three sisters survive Julie: Adrienne Fay (Leo Fay); Nadine Loste Hathaway; and Barbara Loste (Robert Werckle). She adored her nephews Charles Lawrence Cox (Rani Snyder), James Thomas Cox (Ingrid Mudge) and her nieces Jeanne Fay and Valentina Garcia-Loste (Daniel Watchulonis.) She rejoiced as a great aunt to Zane, Sophie, Calissa, Delilah, Santiago, and Rio.
Ms. Loste was awarded a Master of Science degree in Teaching from Fordham University, retiring as a proofreader after over twenty years at Benton & Bowles, a leading advertising agency in Manhattan.
Since moving to Beacon, Julie continued her life-long passions of reading, social activism, making new friends, and gift sending. She became the Secretary of the Residents Council in her apartment building and completed a peer advocacy-training program. Her singing lessons motivated her to join a cabaret class where she enthusiastically joined fellow students in putting on public performances.
Julie was a member of the Westar Institute because she noted, “It feeds my curiosity and my soul.” She was a longtime faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beacon, where she served as a Deacon. She was also a choir member and a member of the handbell team. Julie also enjoyed volunteering with the church’s “Welcome Table,” where she loved holding conversations with guests. She thoroughly enjoyed assisting and tending to the shut-ins with home visits, often sending them greeting cards. Julie considered the church part of her family, especially the members of the Bible study.
Julie was a volunteer at the Howland Library in Beacon, and loved strolling Main Street where she could be seen frequenting the local shops for conversation, organic food, and personal gifts. She joined the Coalition of Institutionalized Aged and Disabled which supports the pride, purpose, and self-determination of residents of adult care facilities. After joining a local chapter of Al-Anon, Julie was proud to be surrounded by a close supportive network.
Her family will receive and gather with friends on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 9-10am at First Presbyterian Church of Beacon 50 Liberty Street, Beacon, where a Celebration of Life Service will be offered 10AM followed by interment to the Fishkill Rural Cemetery Community Mausoleum, where she will be laid to rest next to her loving companion Eugene Brzezinski, who predeceased her.
In lieu of flowers, you may honor Julie’s life by sending a donation to either the First Presbyterian Church of Beacon “Welcome Table,” 51 Liberty St., Beacon, NY 12508 or to the Howland Cultural Center, 477 Main St, Beacon, NY 12508. Arrangements were entrusted to the loving care of Her Friends at LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, New York.
