Julio Rivera Osuba

Julio Rivera Osuba, a longtime beloved Beacon resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 20, 2022 at his home in Beacon, NY. He was born in Añasco, Puerto Rico on March 2, 1952, son of the late Vidal Rivera and Amparo Osuba. His family migrated to the states in 1960, and settled in Beacon, New York.

On December 10, 1971 in Beacon, NY, he married his ‘middle school sweetheart’, Cherry A. Cable, they met when they were 12 years old; she survives him at home.

Julio worked as a machine operator for Nabisco and Tasa Tuck Tape manufacturing plants when it was in Beacon, and later Middletown, NY; for over 25 years until he retired.

During the 1970s, Julio had been awarded Golden Gloves in boxing, for his time spent at the NSO in Beacon. He was an avid gambler; he loved his numbers and the horses. Julio loved to cook, he was a health fanatic, and he loved to dance. He thoroughly enjoyed helping people. Affectionately known as ‘Mojoyo’ among his family and close friends.

Julio also loved traveling back and forth to his beloved Puerto Rico, his second home in Las Marias, PR which is referred to as ‘the Rivera Compound’ where he enjoyed sitting with family & friends sipping on the Island’s Moonshine and playing his beloved dominoes.

Along with his beloved and devoted wife of 51 years, Cherry Rivera, Julio is survived by his children: Victoria (Samuel) Rivera-Dandrade, Anna Rivera (Martin Tinsley), Lisa Rivera (Shawn Robinson), Julio River Jr. (Madeline Bernard), Lydia Rivera, Julio Michael ‘Pito’ Rivera (Vianey Perez); his 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Wilfredo ‘Freddy’ Rivera; step-brother Ingram ‘Cowboy’; and a host of nieces, nephews & dear friends.

Along with his parents, Julio is predeceased by his grandson, Robert Webber; brothers Pedro, Miguel, Eduardo ‘Santo’, Nelson, Jose and Vidal Jr. ‘David’; his sister Blanca Hernandez.

His Family will receive Friends on Tuesday, May 24 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10am, Wednesday, May 25 at the St. John the Evangelist Church, 31 Willow Street, Beacon, followed by interment to St. Joachim Cemetery, 325 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
