With his wife of 53 years by his side, Larry Thompson went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2011 after a courageous13 year battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease. Larry was born in Brooklyn on May 23, 1935. On June 22, 1957 he married his high school sweetheart, Laila, who survives at home. He is also survived by their four children Wayne, Brian, Wendy & Amy along with their spouses and 16 grandchildren. Larry worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie for 27 years, retiring in 1992 to pursue his dream of building houses. He also devoted much of his time to his growing family of grandchildren. His grandchildren were the light of his life and they adored him, even as his Alzheimer's progressed. Larry was also an active member of Fishkill Baptist Church for nearly half a century, serving as Youth Leader, Trustee and Building Handyman. He also volunteered his time in prison ministry at Fishkill Correctional Facility. Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 22, at 11:00 am at Fishkill Baptist Church, Route 82, Fishkill.
