Lorraine McKeown

Lorraine Laredo McKeown, born in New York City on March 20, 1928 died in Beacon, New York on March 9, 2011. After growing up in Washington, D.C., she returned to New York and worked in literature, music and entertainment fields, including working for John Steinbeck in the late 1940s and later on a Frank Sinatra special. She was also an entrepreneur in the late 1950s, starting a teen make-up company with her sister, Lori Beecher, called Twelve to Twenty. After her marriage to William Taylor McKeown in 1964, Mrs. McKeown became a homemaker and raised three daughters. While living in Darien Connecticut in 1983, she founded with her sister the company Computer Travel Information Inc., a database for travel agents and airlines with information on international countries. In 1985, Mrs. McKeown with her family moved to Beacon, New York, where she became active in the community. Among her various activities, she served on the Howland Cultural Center's board for several years, starting the popular trips to area museums. In 2000, she received from them Mayor Clara Lou Gould a Certificate of Appreciation for her service to Beacon's Conservation Advisory Commission. She is survived by her husband, William Taylor McKeown, and her three daughters, Elizabeth, Katherine and Suzanne. Private service and interment have been held.
