Maria Upitis

Maria Upitis, age 91 from Highland, NY passed away at home on April 26, 2017. Maria was born in Lima, Peru South America on December 17, 1925 born to Mr. Manuel Chavez, and Mrs. Sophia Garcia. Maria immigrated to the United Sates and proudly became a citizen. She married Ilmars Upitis, they were married 39 years. In Peru Maria was an Executive Secretary, and in the U.S.Maria worked as a bi-lingual secretary in NYC Import /Export Co, and moved to Beacon upstate NY where she performed many other jobs and after retirement, she became an Avon representative where she served as a head Avon representative, and received many top seller awards. She loved the friendships and people she met throughout the many years of her enjoyable career. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, knitting, crocheting, dancing, gardening, the beach, her high heels, and purses, but most of all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and family. She was the matriarch and enduring strength of the family. Maria is survived by her loving husband Ilmars Upitis, her brother Manuel, and sister Nora, her daughter Carmela Lujan Ugarte, her son Juan Ugarte, wife Alison. Her grandchildren Liliania Barrientos, husband Wesley, Tatiania Memoli, husband Chris, Manuel, Gioconda Pacione, her husband Paul, John Ugarte, wife Shauna, Nicolas Ugarte, and Anthony Ugarte. Her great grandchildren Paul, Andrew, Jimmy, Maddison, Caroline, Carmine, Christopher, Sophia, CJ, and Charlie. Maria is preceded in death by her oldest daughter Myrta Ugarte in August 2015. Her sisters Julia, Bertha, Peta, Angela, and brothers Hernan, and Miguel. The family of Maria Upitis wishes to thank Hudson Valley Hospice and her loyal caretakers for all of the loving care during her last days. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Libby Funeral Home, Inc. 55 Teller Ave. Beacon. Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Libby Funeral Home, Inc. Beacon. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Fishkill, NY.
