Gioia, Mary long time resident of Jennies Gardens in Marlboro, NY, has gracefully succumb to a geriatric related illness and at 95 years of age has entered the Kingdom of Heaven. Born in San Michele Italy on March 7, 1921 the daughter of produce farmer’s Giulia and Leo Spinnelli. At the age of seventeen, Mary emigrated to the Bronx with her family and worked as a dress maker in Manhattan’s Garment district where she met and married her eternal love, the late Carlo Joseph Gioia. Mary devoted most of her life to being a home maker, those that knew her would praise her for how well she kept everything so spotless, bright and shinny and if you did not know her well might think that she had a clean and neat obsession, but anyone that has ever met her would agree that Mother Mary was an extremely strong willed lady, she always spoke her mind. We will always remember her offering words of wisdom and forever exclaiming that spending extra time cleaning house will keep you healthy, off the street and out of trouble… Mother Mary is predeceased by her first grand daughter Julia Sara Gioia March 29, 2013. Surviving grandchildren, Jonathan Anthony Gioia and Vincent Carlo Gioia of Newburgh and Daniella Marie Gioia of Jersey Heights, NJ, sons, Leo Gioia of Wappingers Falls, Thomas Gioia of Winter Garden, FL, sister, JennyGuercio and niece’s JoAnn and Laura, nephew, Eddie Bacigalupo of New Fairfield, CT. Memorial services will be held at noon on November 16, 2016 at the Woodlawn Cemetery Garden Conservatory Community Chapel located at Jerome Ave. and 233rd Street, Bronx, NY.
