Norma Isabel Cuadrado Gonzalez Colón, 84, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Thursday November 16, 2023, in Fishkill, NY.
She was born on November 19, 1938, to Theodora and Ediscio Cuadrado in Minas, Lavalleja, Uruguay in their family home. In her youth she moved to Colón where she met and later married the love of her life Kirico Gonzalez. Together they raised two daughters Alba Isabel and Estrella Renee.
Norma was well known for her strong will and stubbornness, but also her heart and sense of humor. She had a love for crafting and crocheting. She was always ready with a baby blanket for any newborns and hats, scarves, and gloves for the cold weather months. Most of her time and energy was dedicated to attending church, volunteerism, lobbying in Albany for education, and teaching art classes at the local senior center.
Her passions included traveling, cooking, rooting for Nacional (Uruguayan football league), gardening, going to the beach and beating her opponents in any card game. Some of her most difficult moments came during the loss of her husband at a relatively young age and the passing of her daughter Estrella from breast cancer. Among her proudest achievements was receiving her naturalized citizenship in 1988. Norma found love again in 2005 and married Javier Colón. They resided happily in Bronx, NY until his passing.
Through the years she managed to keep a song in her heart and a little dance in her step. Norma is survived by her daughter Alba, her seven grandchildren: Angel (wife Johanny), Gabriela, Christian, Andrea, Martin (his spouse and children), Lucas (his spouse and children), and Julian; and her great granddaughter Emma.
Per her wishes, there are no services planned, certainly no pomp and circumstance. A Celebration of Life will occur with details to be determined . . .
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Norma and the Cuadrado Gonzalez Vazquez Family!
