Paula J. (Armstrong) Burns

Paula J. Burns, a longtime Beacon resident, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2023 at the Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, NY; at the age of 61. She was born in Harlem, NY on November 24, 1962, daughter of the late Lincoln Armstrong and Almond Fredericks; she is also predeceased by her stepmother Louise Armstrong.

Paula graduated from Beacon High School, then graduated with an Associate’s degree. Upon graduating college she enlisted in the United States Army where she proudly served from 1985-1989 active, and until 1993 in the reserves; she received an honorable discharge.

Paula worked for over 30 years as a correction office at the Downstate Correctional and Fishkill Correctional Facilities, where she attained the rank of Sergeant. She retired after her 30+ years.

Paula enjoyed many, most her family, being with her grandchildren and her sons. Her sons were her pride and joy.

Paula is survived by her three loving sons: Dashaun (Brynne) Burns, Rashaad Burns and Tyree Burns; Her five grandchildren Rashaad Jr., Aiden, Noelle, Chance and Kendrix. She is also survived by her four brothers and one sister, Michael Armstrong, Steven (Brenda) Armstrong, Mike Wood, Daniel Overby, and Paulette Goggins; and several nieces, nephews & friends.

Her Family will receive Friends on Saturday, December 16th from 9-11AM at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, where reflections of Her Life will be offered at 11AM, followed by interment and Military Honors at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Fishkill, New York.
