Lapis, Penelope of Beacon, entered into rest Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Salem Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Purdys, NY. She was 93. Born January 30, 1919 in Panagia, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Costas and Vasaliki Manolakodis. Mrs. Lapis was the widow of the late Alexander Lapis who pre-deceased her April 26, 1997. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Newburgh and the Ducthess Junction Fire Department Woman’s Auxiallary. Survivors include: her son Peter Lapis and his wife Diane of Beacon, two step grandchildren Sarah and Evan Kuras, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sister Catherine Roussos. Visitation will be held Sunday September 30, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Libby Funeral Home, Inc. 55 Teller Ave. Beacon, NY , where, at 6:00 pm a Trisagion Service will take place. A Funeral Mass will be take place Monday, October 1, at 10:00 am, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Fullerton Ave., Newburgh, NY 12550. Father Gregory S. Patsis will officiate. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Fishkill, NY In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
