Richard Losee

Losee, Richard (Dick) P. of Fishkill, NY went to his rest on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at age 87. He was a lifelong area resident, born on August 15, 1923 to Everett and Caroline (Polhemus) Losee. He was a WWII veteran and proudly served in the US Navy as a gunner’s mate aboard a Merchant Marine ship in the Mediterranean and European theatre, receiving the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in March, 1946. Upon his release, he worked for Castle Point Veteran’s Hospital and Beacon Looms in Groville before starting a 30+ year Career at Ibm in both Poughkeepsie and Fishkill. He enjoyed both NASCAR and local dirt track racing, with favorites Dale Earnhardt, Carl Van Horn, and Gary Balough. He was also an avid Yankee fan, enjoyed weightlifting throughout his life and loved to dance. On Dec. 20, 1947 in Beacon, he married Mary Schmid, Mrs. Losee preceeded him in death on June, 18, 1988. He is Survived by sons Richard of Beacon, Michael of Fishkill, James of Virginia Beach, VA. Steven of Beacon, a daughter Patricia Losee of Poughkeepsie. A sister Alice Renna of Whitehall, PA. , a younger brother Robert of Hyde Park, and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Henry, and a sister Marian. The family would like to thank all the staff at Castle Point Veteran’s Hospital, especially the very caring staff on the B2 Hospice Unit. Their kindness, commitment and unfailing support brought comfort to both Richard and his family. Visitation will be held on Monday February 14, 2011 from 6 to 9 pm at Libby Funeral Home, Inc. 55 Teller Ave. Beacon, NY, where at 8:00 pm prayers will take place. At his request, he will be cremated and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
