Robert H. Koenig, a longtime Carmel resident, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2023 at the VA Hudson Valley Hospital at Castle Point; at the age of 85. He was born on April 6, 1938 in White Plains, NY, son of the late Robert John & Anna (Reinhardt) Koenig.
Robert proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959, receiving an honorable discharge.
On June 2, 1962 in Yonkers, NY, he married Louise Marilyn Messur, who survives him at home.
Robert worked for many years as a self-employed carpenter, and various other jobs; he was a hardworking man that provided for his family. His passion was model trains, he was an avid collector and builder of trains. He ran his own train shop which he called ‘High-Rails’ for over 20-years.
Robert and Louise were longtime and active members of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster; Robert also a Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 1 of Carmel, for over 10-years during his sons’ youth.
Along with his beloved wife of 61 years, Louise Koenig; Robert is survived by his three sons: Neil & Sherri (Colello) Koenig, Eric Koenig & Maria Papanastaiou, and Mark & Heather (Bradshaw) Koenig; his 12 grandchildren: Shane, Rachel, Jourdan, Geoffrey, Jean, Alison, Virginia, Nicholas, Marisa, Brandon, Colby and Jake; and 2 great-grandchildren, Lilly & Parker. He also leaves behind his sister Anita (Ted) Diefes, and several nieces & nephews.
His Family & Friends will gather to remember His Life on Saturday, August 26, 10AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 2103 Route 6, Brewster, NY, followed by interment and military honors at the Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
