Fishkill, NY – Ron Sauers, 73, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2011, after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1938. His early years in the U.S. Coast Guard reflected a life-long love of the sea. Ron was a well respected builder and contractor in Montauk, Beacon and New York City. He specialized in the construction of video and sound studios, supervised the construction of Rockefeller's Greenacre Park in NYC and managed the park for 40 years. Ron, along with his wife, Ronnie, is well known in the Hudson Valley for his pioneering work in the revitalization of the city of Beacon. His love of architecture and historical buildings, combined with a passion for restoration, has inspired enduring growth in the city. An expert sailor, Ron's greatest joys were restoring his magnificent 48'classic ketch, the Free Spirit, and eating lobster! Ron is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ronnie Beth of Fishkill, his brother Tim Sauers, of Montauk, his daughters, Pam Drumm and Tracy Erb, of Montauk, his granddaughters, Melissa Drumm, Logan and Camille Erb, all of Montauk, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jane and Ron Soodalter, of Cold Spring, and his nieces, Melora Soodalter of Brooklyn, and Jesse Soodalter, of Providence, RI.
