Seymour Stone

Seymour Stone, age 89, died on May 15, 2011 at his residence, The Manor at Woodside in Poughkeepsie. He was born on July 30, 1921 to Harry & Eva Stone of Brooklyn, NY. He married his childhood sweetheart, Dorothy Rachnowitz on December 6, 1941 who predeceased him in 2006. Seymour served in the army band during WWII. He credited his clarinet with saving his life when the band remained behind when his unit was called to battle. He worked as a milkman, a manufacturer of plastic slipcovers and a musician, but no job was more satisfying to him than being one of the founders of Jerrick Drugs and Discount in Fishkill, NY. He was much more than a proprietor and employer. He became a friend to all his customers and employees. He loved to work, but his passion was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Michele Brettholtz & son in law, Rick of Poughkeepsie, his son, Rick Stone and daughter in law, Sheryl of Poughquag, his grandchildren: Jeremy and his wife Carrie, Russell and his wife, Tara, Jaimie, Courtney and Lauren, and his great grandchildren: Sophie, Spencer and Jonah. He is also survived by his "big" brother and best friend, Isidore Stone. Seymour was known for his kindness and caring, and he will always be remembered for his sense of humor and stories that he loved to tell. The family would like to thank the entire staff at The Manor at Woodside for their incredible kindness, care and concern during the 7+ years he resided there. Funeral services held graveside Tuesday, May 17th at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY at 11 AM. Shiva will be observed at the home of Rick & Sheryl Stone, 2 Cornwell St., Poughquag, NY: Tuesday from 3-8PM, Wednesday & Thursday 1-8PM, Friday 1-4PM and Sunday 11AM - 3PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Libby Funeral Home, Inc. 55 Teller Ave. Beacon, NY.
