Tanita (Johnson)

Tanita Delores Johnson (Big Nit) went home to the Lord on December 26, 2019 at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. She was born on June 15, 1966 in Beacon, NY to her parents Betty L. Johnson and Floyd Lewis. She was the second youngest of five siblings. Tanita, a homemaker and life-long resident of Beacon for over fifty years. She graduated from Beacon High School in 1985; which her proud grin moment made the newspaper. She went to Dutchess Community College, where she studied computer science. She then turned her life over to the Lord and was baptized at Beulah Baptist Church in Wappinger Falls, NY. Tanita held various jobs throughout her life including as a food service worker at the VA Castle Point Hospital. Tanita, was a devoted mother and had a motherly bond with many because she loved all as her own. Tanita's favorite color was money green and her favorite music group was "Slave". Tanita loved cooking and was well-known for her cooking. Tanita enjoyed family gatherings and playing card games. Tanita had a heart of a Lion and fought for who she loved. Tanita was a realist and her loving spirit will forever live on. She is survived by her daughters Tanisha Gantt and Tanika Gantt, and granddaughter Cheyenne Gantt. She is also survived by her brothers, James Johnson and Christopher Johnson; her sisters, Betty Johnson and Nicole Johnson; her niece, Alexis Johnson and her nephews, Dureell Johnson and Nathan Johnson; her godchildren, Illayahssa Monroe and Londyn Crawford; and then a host of aunts, uncles, cousins & friends. Tanita will be remembered as an excellent mother, who loved her "girls". Tanita was real and her heat was pure. Let her best moments live on; her community functions and birthday BBQ's. She loved her children, grandchildren, family & friends. She will be dearly missed. Sleep well Tanita! Her Family & Friends will gather on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 from 9-10am at the Star of Bethlehem Church 139 Main Street, Beacon, where at 10:00AM a Home-Going Celebration will be offered followed by interment to the Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5468 Route 9W, Newburgh, NY.
