Thomas Franklin Bull (85), loving husband of Lynn (Layton Hepworth), and father of Andrea Bull Brainard and David Andrew Bull, and their spouses, Brad Brainard and Dover Chorley Bull, died peacefully at his home November 21, 2011. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, July 4th, 1926, to Susan Moore and Laverne Meddaugh Bull, he attended the Clinton School, Poughkeepsie Day School and graduated from The George School. Tom served in the Phillipines with the Navy in WWII, and was a member of the initial class of the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, graduating in 1951. Mr. Bull was a management consultant and partner in Hay Consulting in Philadelphia. He later formed his own firm, J.B. Associates, and maintained a lifelong interest in equitable labor and management relationships. After retiring to Beacon, he volunteered as a Fire Commissioner, Fire Police and with the Rivers and Estuaries Conservation Organization. He took a solo canoe trip up the Hudson through the canals to Lake Champlain. He appreciated all music, especially opera. Always in search of new adventures, Tom and Lynn were fortunate to travel throughout Europe, Kenya, the United States and Canada. A highlight was camping along the trail of Lewis and Clark. Tom welcomed Lynn's children into his family: Jeri Hepworth and Robert Ryder, Linda Hepworth and Thor Neuhaus, Mark and Deborah Hepworth, Tracy and Bill Murphy, Jodie and Bruce Sanchez. Tom shared his joy, appreciation and curiosity with all fourteen grandchildren: Phoebe Bull, Andrew Bull, Ali Brainard, Colter Brainard, Jon Ryder,Katie Ryder, Kyle Hepworth and Megan Spielbusch, Andrew and Melinda Hepworth, Adam Hepworth, Matt and Andrea Murphy Kusanovich, Aerin Murphy, Erich and Alida Sanchez Lorenz, Calvin and Ashley Sanchez, Sydney Sanchez, and a great-grandchild, Mila Lorenz. He also survived by his sister, Louise Bull Clarke, and nephews and nieces, Tim Clark, Amy Clarke Luchsinger, Susan Napper, and Thomas Napper. He was predeceased by his former wife Mary Ylvisaker Bull, his sister Lydia Napper, and niece Susan Clarke.
