Vera Scadura, 90, passed away peacefully at Eddy Residential Home, Slingerlands, NY on July 31, 2021.
Vera was born on March 18, 1931 in Beacon, NY, daughter of the late Michael & Agnes (Derescavage) Scadura. Vera attended Spring Street Elementary School, Beacon Junior High School and graduated from Beacon High School; the Class of 1949. She attended Albany Business School in Albany, NY and set out for a career as a New York State Secretarial Employee. Vera was one of the earliest state employees to transition from the secretarial ranks to a professional position. She attended classes at Cornell’s Extension Program in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations. In 1977, Vera entered a traineeship at P.E.R.B. as a Public Employment Conciliation Assistant. She developed, managed, and sustained PERB’s Arbitration Administration Service. Vera managed the growth of the grievance arbitration program over the many years of her employment at PERB until retiring in June of 1993.
Vera was an avid tennis player and skier and belonged to the Albany Ridgefield Park Tennis Club , and the Albany ski club founded by skiers for skiers in 1950. Vera traveled Europe, China and the USA with family & friends. Vera was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Albany, NY.
Vera is survived by nieces: Sharon (Larry) O’Dell of Cooksville, TN; Elizabeth Fenner of August, GA; Kathy Scadura of Beacon, NY; Karen (Jim) Easton Indianapolis, IN; and her grand nieces Kelly (Paul) Aponte of Goshen, NY and Ashley Scadura of Orlando, FL; and also many other grand-nieces, grand-nephews & many dear friends.
Along with her parents, Vera was predeceased by her siblings: Walter (Mary), Michael (Josephine), John, Stella Fenner and Nettie (John) Brown. She was also predeceased by her nephew Donald (Sandra) Scadura, Michael Scadura and John Scadura; and her friends Ellis Kolodny, Mary Stuart (Vanderwalker) and many other caring and loving friends.
