Vincent G. Basso, a life-long Hudson Valley resident, passed away on January 25, 2023 at his home in Fishkill, NY; he was 79 years old. Vincent was born in Cold Spring, NY on September 26, 1943, son of the late Vincent Carmelo Basso & ‘Margaret’ Domenica Pisacreta Basso. Vincent attended Beacon City Schools, and graduated from Beacon High School, class of 1962. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam Era from 1964-1968.
Vincent worked over 25 years as a correction officer and retired from Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill, NY. During retirement he went to work for the Beacon City School District as a bus driver which he loved dearly. Ever hardworking, he was well-respected by his peers and the children he drove. He worked for the schools for the last 15-years until his passing. He was also a volunteer fireman with the City of Beacon Fire Department for over 50-years; serving from Lewis Tompkins Hose Company.
Vincent enjoyed traveling, and he was especially fond of the southern United States and the American Southwest. In many ways, he was a kid at heart and took especial relish in spinning a yarn. Vincent loved his family and his great joy in his later years was spending whatever time he could with his grandsons in New Mexico.
Vincent is survived by his son Vincent M. Basso and his wife Liv-Michelle; his two grandsons, Vincent Eldridge Basso and Teigan Forrest Basso. He is also survived by his brother Samuel Basso and his wife Louise, sister Rosemarie Robinson, and his former wife Donna Carroll.
His Family will receive Friends on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from 3-6 pm at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, where a prayer service will be offered at 5PM.
