Winifred B. (Bierce) Marlatt, formerly of Bloomingburg, NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 95 on November 3, 2022 at Mount Pleasant Gardens Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant, SC. She was born on July 8, 1927 in Beacon, NY, daughter of the late Howard & Helen (Talmadge) Bierce.
On April 12, 1952 at St. Luke Episcopal Church in Beacon, she married Donald D. Marlatt, who predeceased her after 62-years of marriage.
A graduate of Plattsburg State Teacher's College, Winifred worked as an elementary school teacher for 30 years in both New York and New Jersey. She taught from 1964 to 1989 in the Middletown School District, mostly at Liberty Street School in Middletown.
She was affectionately known as ‘Winnie’ by her family & friends. Winnie liked to knit and always had yarn and her knitting needles with her, she also liked doing word search puzzles; but she mostly enjoyed the company of her family and friends.
Along with her parents and husband, Winnie was predeceased by sisters Barbara B. Coley and Carol B. Bates. Her son Judson (Judd) D. Marlatt also predeceased her on August 20, 2008.
Winifred is survived by her daughter-in-law Frances C. Marlatt of Mt. Pleasant, SC and her two grandchildren Caitlin M. Davis of Hamden, CT and Adam D. Marlatt of Gdansk, Poland. Winnie was very proud of her grandchildren's accomplishments. Caitlin is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Yale University and Adam is Operations Director of Help.NGO a United Nations Standby Partner. Winnie is also survived by several cousins, nieces & nephews.
Her Family will gather on Friday, November 18, 2022 for a 2:00 PM Graveside Service at St. Luke Cemetery, 850 Wolcott Avenue, Beacon.
