Alice (Yeager) Smith

July 18, 1928 — January 30, 2019

Alice L. Smith, a long-time resident of Beacon, NY, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 90 on January 30, 2019. She was born the youngest daughter of Alfred and Ruth Yeager of Elmhurst, Pennsylvania. On September 18, 1950, Alice married the love of her life, Frederick Smith, in Washington, D.C. Alice was a homemaker and could make any house feel like a home as she and her family moved quite often while her husband was in the Navy. She spoke often of the various places they lived and the friends they made, particularly in Great Lakes, IL and Norfolk, VA. She and her family moved to Beacon, NY in 1965. Alice was a member of the Reformed Church of Beacon. She loved to read books. She was an incredibly sharp and witty person. She was a rock to her family as she always was there to listen and give advice. She loved spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alice will be missed greatly. Alice is survived by her sons, Harry Smith (Diane) of Jacksonville, Florida, Frederick Smith, Jr. (Sue) of Wrightsville, Pennsylvania, her daughter, Beverly Phillips of Beacon, NY, her grandchildren, Joanie, Susie, Jennifer, Jeannette, and Donyae, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Frederick Smith, Sr., her brother, Willard, her sisters, Valeda, Wilma, Reba, and Evelyn, her grandson, Charlie Smith, and her son-in-law, David Phillips. In Alice's honor, a memorial service will be held at the Reformed Church of Beacon, 1113 Wolcott Avenue on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 2 pm. She will be buried beside her husband at a cemetery in Pennsylvania at a future date.
