Dorothy Germond

Dorothy Naomi Germond passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Wingate at Beacon. She was born on August 28, 1920 at home on Liberty Street in Beacon, NY, the daughter of Edward Gilbert Germond and Mary Becker Germond. Dorothy resided here in her beloved home for nearly 96 years. Dorothy was a member of the Beacon High School graduating class of 1938 and furthered her education at the Spencerian Business School in Newburgh, NY, receiving her certificate in 1939. For 18 years Dorothy was employed at the New York Rubber Company Sales Office in Beacon. In 1961 she accepted a bookkeeping position at the former Matteawan National Bank; and then she retired from the Emery & Webb Insurance Agency in Fishkill after 18 years of service. Dorothy was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church-Beacon, where she served in many capacities, including participation in the Dorcas Guild. She took pride in the number of pins she earned as a youth for perfect Sunday School attendance. Dorothy was also a member of the Beacon Historical Society. Gardening brought her great joy, along with creating with arts and crafts, playing the organ, cooking and baking, the challenge of "Wonderword" puzzles and reading novels by her favorite author Danielle Steele. Dorothy is survived and will be missed by several cousins, including Donald Becker (Poughkeepsie), Joan Becker Sanford (Fishkill), Douglas Mayen (Stephentown), Naomi Mayen (Fishkill), Frances Mayen Wolff (Rockledge, FL), and Jeanne Becker Paschal (Beacon). Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dorothy's life at the Libby Funeral Home, 55 Teller Ave., Beacon, on Saturday, July 23, at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside service in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
